On Friday 21 June, our Year 5/6 Netball, AFL and Soccer Teams competed at the Greater Western Winter Sports competition in Ballarat. This is the first time that HTLC has had a team in all three sports and all of our students performed brilliantly, giving their absolute best! Congratulations to all teams and a huge thank you goes out to our staff coaches, Mr James Withey (Soccer), Mrs Alethea Gulvin (Netball) and Mr Daryl Taber (AFL) for your time and effort you have put into our teams.
Our two standout performers were Thomas Stevenson—who scored a great goal in our first match of the day—and Ethan Rudolph, who played brilliantly as a centre back covering for the full backs. He positioned himself well throughout the competition and put in a number of well-timed tackles.
We would like to say thank you to Michael Labram for accompanying the Soccer team and acting as assistant coach on the day. We would also like to thank parent helpers Keren Kosch, Carlie Streeter and players Eva Drendel and Dara Heang for travelling via car to play in the soccer competition before returning to Horsham to put a second round of fantastic performances in the college production of Pinocchio.
Thank you to all the parents and staff involved with the Horsham Falcons for allowing our students to train with the U12 team, providing use of the club’s facilities and coaching from U12 coach Noah Talbot.
In AFL, the boys’ first match saw them up against Stawell Primary School where the boys came away with a very comfortable win, 3.3. 21 to nil. Congratulations to our goal kickers Lenix Nelson, Nash McKenzie and Max Bunworth.
After this game the competition became more difficult. In the final pool match, Ballarat defeated HTLC convincingly. In the semi-final we played Warrnambool and, again, they were far too strong for us. The boys should be very proud of their sportsmanship, teamwork, effort and camaraderie during the day. They certainly tried their very best. Congratulations to the boys who made it to the semi-final stage.
Best players over the day were Max Bunworth, Zane Munyard, Jed Uebergang, Aiden Richardson, Levi Munyard, Thomas Daniell, Darcy Both and Xavier Shevlin,
We would like to thank Amanda Munyard, Lisa Uebergang and Nadine Hoffmann for their assistance during the day.
The girls all played exceptionally well, working brilliantly as a team to win all minor games (including one draw) which earned them a spot in the Grand Final! They performed incredibly under pressure and had command of the court in nearly every game, regardless if the opposition was difficult. Unfortunately, they didn’t take the final, but they represented HTLC tremendously, as well as themselves.
A big thank you to all of the parents who came down to support and for the assistance they provided in coaching. A huge thank you to Susie Hedt for all of her planning, coaching and encouragement, Jenelle Meadows for her assistance with planning, Carly Streeter for her support and help in scoring and Tamara Freijah, Kate Carter and Murray Wilson.
