The end of term has come around very quickly and it's hard to believe that we are about to head into the Easter long weekend and end-of-term holiday break. As I reflect back on this term, I wish to acknowledge the efforts of everyone who helps to make HTLC a special place to work, including:
the dedicated, passionate and hardworking staff
supportive and invested parents
Admin, Finance, ICT and Maintenance teams; and lastly
the enthusiastic and engaged students.
I was reminded of one of the important roles of the principal at my leadership conference on Monday - “We are in the people industry and it’s the principal's job to ensure they are creating an environment that allows people to thrive and flourish.” This is a great responsibility but one which is a shared vision of the college and I am grateful I get to lead a team of people who are committed to making this vision a reality.
On Wednesday evening I had the pleasure of attending a special event at HTLC. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of our Year 12 students, Mrs Jenion, Mrs Polack and Mrs Hahn for the work they put into Wednesday night’s spectacular Easter Journey Stations of the Cross and Passion Play. The Easter message was delivered thoughtfully and respectfully and it provided a wonderful reminder of the importance of the Easter story.
I pray the Easter and holiday period provides a time of rest, relaxation and reflection, especially this weekend as we mourn Jesus’ death and then celebrate his resurrection. May the hope and salvation of this season permeate through you as we joyfully shout “He is Risen!”
1 Peter 1:3: "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead."

What has Jesus done?
by Dianne Eckermann
His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant (John 13:22).
There are many things Jesus knows about his immediate future. He knows when and how he will die. He knows the suffering that lies ahead for him. He knows who will betray him. He also knows all of this will happen soon, very soon.
In contrast, the disciples seem to be more confused than ever. They have no idea that one of their close-knit group plans to betray their leader. They have been with Jesus since the beginning of his ministry and must know each other and Jesus really well, but they are struggling to understand what is happening. While Jesus does not come right out and name Judas Iscariot as the person who will betray him, he tells them the person he is sharing bread with is, in fact, that person. Still, they don’t understand and erroneously think that Jesus has sent Judas on an errand.
Whether we are new Christians or have known Jesus for most of our lives, today’s message suggests none of us know God as well as we might hope. We share our humanity with the disciples and also our ignorance. Some years ago, there was a fascination with wearing wristbands with the letters WWJD on them: What would Jesus do? It’s a good question and possibly one where we might arrogantly believe we know the answer. At best, we might say that Jesus would act out of love, not self-interest. We should also expect that his actions would be both totally unexpected and perfectly right for the situation.
With the benefit of hindsight, we can see what the disciples cannot. This in no way makes our understanding superior, just better informed. Like Jesus, we are in a position to know what is about to happen to him. With this understanding, we can focus on the amazing love his sacrifice means for each and every one of us and share, as best as we humanly can, that love with all who touch our lives.
Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us despite our faults and sinful nature. We thank you also for your gifts of grace and mercy, which we know we do not deserve. Help us to share your love with those around us. Amen.

Thank you for building great co-educator relationships
The success of our educational product here at Holy Trinity can be attributed to the hard work of the staff and students, but it is also truly the efforts of parents and carers here at Holy Trinity that makes the difference! Thank you everyone for being invested in the educational process, and starting the year by building a good relationship with your child’s key staff. It has been wonderful to witness teachers and parents meeting and communicating about the education of our students and your children. It truly makes it feel good to share, rather than feeling like ‘ships in the night’, bringing up these young people with a single effort. We look forward to hearing about your holidays on the commencement of Term 2, and the learning that these holiday situations bring forth for different families!
Kind regards, Adam.

End of Term 1
As we reach the end of Term 1, we eagerly await the holidays ahead, as a time for rest and relaxation away from study with family and friends. It is important to remember that this is also a time for our VCE students to reflect on the term, review work completed and begin to plan for the continuation of the course.
Revision lectures and information sessions are also held over the holiday break to support our senior students with information that will help to guide their future pathways.
School resumes for Term 2 on Monday, 15 April.

An Easter Journey
The Year 12s have been involved in the planning and preparation of the Easter Journey as part of Christian Studies this term. They promoted the event, built and painted props, served supper and created digital resources. Students presented interactive and engaging Stations of the Cross followed by the performance of a Passion Play and musical number.
They have shown great commitment and a positive, helpful attitude and we are proud to have them as our College leaders.

It has been a massive final week of sport to round out the term. As a college, we have been involved in three athletics carnivals, two regional swimming carnivals, a regional tennis event and a division volleyball event.
Greater Western Region swimming - secondary
On Friday, 22 March, 10 HTLC secondary students competed at the Greater Western Region swimming championships at the Horsham Aquatic Centre on what was a magnificent day to be at the pool. All 20 students gave their all in every event they swam, whether as individuals or as a team, and were duly rewarded with some fantastic results.
Every HTLC student medalled in at least one of their events with most finishing with multiple medals, which is a phenomenal achievement. Year 12 student Jacob M was a standout, winning all of his events comfortably and progressing to the state swimming championships at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre in April.

F-2 Athletics Day
Friday also saw the Foundation to Year 2 students don their house colours and take to the oval to compete in the first of three athletics days for the week. It was fantastic to see all students trying their best at every activity and encouraging each other throughout the entire event.
Thank you to the Year 6 students for running the event stations during the day and the Year 6 teachers for allowing this to happen. Thanks also to the staff from Foundation to Year 2 for their support, and to the parents who came along on the day to watch their children compete.
The scores for the Foundation to Year 2 day set the starting point for the Year 3 to Year 6 Athletics Carnival to determine the overall winner for the Primary School Shield. At the end of Friday, Lowan was in third (754 points), Wimmera was in second (761) and Mallee was leading with 830 points.
3-6 Athletics Carnival
Yesterday morning, students from Year 3 to Year 6 ventured down to the oval to compete in a variety of track and field events to try and earn victory for their house. The competition was fierce and the students definitely left everything they could on the oval in the hope of earning points.
The gap between the scores closed up very early on, with just a couple of points between first and second all day, and multiple lead changes. Prior to the start of the sprint finals, there were just two points difference between first and second.
After all the scores were tallied, and double-checked (and then triple-checked), the winning house for the Primary School Shield was Wimmera, with 2059 points, narrowly clinching the victory over Mallee (2047) and Lowan (2013).Congratulations to Wimmera, who has now won the shield seven times in the past eight years.
Age champions for the Primary School Athletics are as follows:
10-year-olds: Luella R and Lachlan K
11-year-olds: Emily L and Peter S
12-13-year-olds: Elsa D and Hugo P
Thank you to the Year 9 students who ran events on the day, as well as the staff who gave up their time to support the students competing in their events.
Black Ranges Division intermediate and senior volleyball
On Monday, about 30 students from Year 9 to Year 12 travelled to St Brigid’s College to compete in the Black Ranges Division volleyball. Traditionally, the division competition is stronger than regional level, due to the popularity of volleyball in Horsham, and this year was no exception. All of our students faced tough situations during the day, and in some cases, the competition proved to be too strong.
Our intermediate boys - all Year 9 students playing against Year 10s - performed admirably throughout the day but were unable to win the division against some much bigger opponents. Well-drilled teams from other schools in the region were able to just beat out our senior boys and senior girls teams in their respective competitions as well. Our intermediate girls, however, were able to come away with the overall win on the day, and have earned progression to the Greater Western Region finals, which will be held early in Term 2.
Greater Western Region tennis - primary
On Monday we also had three students from Year 6 travel to Ballarat to compete in the Greater Western Region tennis finals. These students earned their place after winning the Little Desert qualifying tournament earlier in the month, and all students put on a strong display throughout the day. Sienna N played exceptionally well and was able to win the Primary Girls section, earning a place at the state finals next term. Congratulations, Sienna, on your efforts!
7-12 Athletics Carnival
We were blessed with fantastic weather for our Secondary Athletics Carnival on Tuesday, as Dudley Cornell Park came alive with the colour and enthusiasm of a whole-school sporting event. After a dominant performance at the Secondary Swimming Carnival, Wimmera was flying high, but Lowan and Mallee still came to compete and try and keep the number of athletics wins for Wimmera at zero.
The Wimmera students had different plans, however, and quickly jumped out to an early lead. The lead would hold all day, with Wimmera finishing the event with 1553 points to cruise to victory, over 250 points ahead of second-placed Mallee (1302) and third-placed Lowan (1292).
Congratulations to the following students who earned Age Champion awards on the day:
12-13-year-olds: Ava S and Riley B
14-year-olds: Georgia F and Ryan S
15-year-olds: Emma S and Edward J
16-year-olds: Eva D and Jed P
17-year-olds: Kyah L and Jude B
18-20-year-olds: Sophie P and Sebastian LR
Thank you to the staff and students for creating such a great atmosphere on the day, and also to the parents from Horsham Little Athletics who gave up their time to run the timing gates throughout the event.
